Bear Creek in West Houston after Hurricane Harvey
Bear Creek in West Houston after Hurricane Harvey as always after any heavy rain was devastated! A long term tragedy of Hurricane Havey’s devastation is what used to be Bear Creek Golf Club and School. A once beautiful public golf course was a favorite of local residents for decades. Sadly it is permantley closed!
Adventurous Bike Ride in Bear Creek Park
However if your out for some adventure the old abadoned cart trails in Bear Creek Park Golf Club in West Houston make an interesting bike ride after Hurricane Harvey. As you ride through the fairways you will pass old tee boxes and water traps. Whne you ride up to the old tree and the marker pointing to the Presidents Course and the Teaching Academy it’s a little ghostly.
The ride does require some caution.
Be cautious because the trails are not maintained. So there are many parts of the asphalt cart trails that have large rocks and holes. You will have to ride around a fallen tree’s and other hazards. Even for those who played the Bear Creek Park Golf course often, like my husband Mike, it’s easy to get a little lost. He knew where we were but there were points we could not figure out how to get back to a part of the trail that would lead us back to where we started.
At the time we went the weeds and old landscaping in some places were so high we could not ride through. We may try again in early spring after all the vegetation has died back during winter.
Bring water, bug spray and DO watch out for snakes and other critters. Even though we never saw any I am personally convinced that alliagtors could be living in those old water traps. Long pants or selves are not a bad idea either.
It was a really fun and interesting way to tour this beutiful abandoned West Houston golf course. For those that used to play at the Bear Creek Park golf course it’s a little nostalgic.
