Village West Yard of the Month
Congratulations to June’s Village West Yard of the Month winners at 11526 Overbrook Lane. The first thing you notice about this house is the vine trained on the brick wall – the geometric diamond pattern makes the plain brick wall disappear.
Plant Types Used in the Yard of the Month for June
The front of the house is framed in a mix of sculpted shrubs and colorful perennials. There is a palate of yellows and pinks at the edge of the driveway: new growth on sunshine Ligustrum is yellow and they’ve mixed in pink Pentas, pink Mexican petunia, a pink Bougainvillea, There is also a few roses and a Lily of the Nile (agapanthus) with purple blossoms. Two large Japanese blueberry shrubs frame the front door. Roses repeat as you move toward the other brick wall which is also has mature hollies and Ligustrum. The bed around the oak in the yard rounds out the landscape with Coleus (annual) and Iris.
Use of Color
This house offers a great example of how you can use your street-facing brick walls as a palate for landscaping. Take a look at what you can do with color!
